Rapid Prototyping in Atlanta: How RPM Fast Serves US Engineering Teams
Atlanta is home to a significant concentration of product development activity: automotive suppliers, medical device companies, defense contractors, consumer product startups, and industrial equipment manufacturers. Teams at these companies need rapid prototyping and low-volume manufacturing partners that are close enough to visit, fast enough to meet program timelines, and qualified enough to meet quality requirements.
RPM Fast is headquartered in Atlanta, GA, holds ISO 9001:2015 certification, and offers six manufacturing processes under one roof. This post covers what we do, why Atlanta-based manufacturing matters for US engineering teams, and how to start a project.
What RPM Fast Offers from Atlanta
Most prototype and low-volume manufacturing programs require more than one process. A product launch might need CNC machined prototypes, cast urethane pre-production samples, and rapid injection molded bridge parts, all on different timelines. Using a single ISO-certified supplier that handles all three processes eliminates the supplier management overhead and keeps quality documentation consistent across the program.
RPM Fast handles six processes in-house, all from our Atlanta facility at 5825 Glenridge Drive, Sandy Springs. The full capabilities are described on the all services page. Here is a brief summary of each:
CNC Machining
Precision CNC machining of metals and engineering plastics. Parts in 1 to 5 business days. Aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, nylon, polycarbonate, PEEK, and more. 3-axis and 5-axis capability. Tolerances to +/-0.025 mm.
Rapid Injection Molding
Aluminum tooling for injection molded plastic parts. Molds complete in 3 to 7 business days; parts available in 3 to 5 business days after mold approval. Full thermoplastic material library. Production-grade parts for functional testing, bridge programs, and low-volume production. See the rapid injection molding service page for full details.
3D Printing
FDM, SLA, and SLS printing for prototypes and functional models. Parts in 1 to 3 business days. Materials include PLA, ABS, nylon, polycarbonate, TPU, and SLA resins.
Cast Urethane
Silicone tooling for low-volume urethane cast parts in Shore A 20 to Shore D 80. Best for 10 to 100 parts where appearance quality, material flexibility, or low tooling cost is the priority.
Sheet Metal Fabrication
Laser cutting, bending, welding, and finishing for prototype and production sheet metal parts. Mild steel, stainless, aluminum, brass. Parts in 3 to 7 business days.
Custom Rubber Parts
Compression and transfer molded custom rubber gaskets, seals, and components across EPDM, silicone, neoprene, nitrile, and Viton. See the custom rubber parts page for materials and capabilities.
Why Atlanta Location Matters for US Engineering Teams
Geography has a practical impact on prototype programs for three reasons.
First, time zone alignment. Suppliers in different time zones from the engineering team introduce a half-day lag on every clarification exchange. RPM Fast operates on Eastern time, which aligns with the majority of US corporate engineering teams in the East and Midwest, and overlaps well with the West Coast during normal business hours.
Second, shipping time. A same-day shipment from Atlanta reaches most East Coast and Midwest destinations overnight, and most Southeast cities within hours. West Coast delivery is typically 2 business days via ground or next-day via air. This is a significant advantage over international suppliers where ocean freight adds 3 to 6 weeks and air freight adds cost.
Third, site visits and collaboration. For programs where the engineering team wants to walk the floor, review first articles in person, or discuss tooling decisions face-to-face, a domestic supplier within driving distance of Atlanta is accessible in a way that offshore manufacturing is not.
Quality and Certification
RPM Fast is ISO 9001:2015 certified under certificate number 262887, issued by Amtivo. The certification covers all six manufacturing services at the Atlanta facility. First article inspection reports, material certifications, and nonconformance documentation are available on all orders. Quality documentation can be provided to customers who require it for their own supplier qualification or production quality records. Background on the company is on our Our Story page.
How to Start a Project
The fastest path to a quote is to submit a complete package: a 3D CAD file in STEP format, a 2D drawing with tolerances called out, material specification, quantity, and required delivery date. With a complete submission, RPM Fast returns DFM feedback and pricing within 1 to 2 business days.
Submit your project through the request a quote page. Include the process you are targeting or let us recommend the right one based on your geometry, volume, and timeline. Teams in the Atlanta metro area are welcome to visit the facility for initial discussions or first article review.
